If you’re self-employed or own some business you need to be a lifelong student of marketing to expand your business and increase your income.
There are various reasons why learning marketing is so important to you.
Here are a few of them:
FIRST, people are so busy in their life that they have no time to check what new products are coming in the market.
They don’t care what’s going on in the world unless you tell them how this product is going to change their life forever.
Sadly, many entrepreneurs think if their product is revolutionary, people will automatically come to them. Instead of taking command of marketing, they get engaged in secondary activities like legal, accounting, operations.
The point you need to remember is that being an entrepreneur it’s your job to reach your market.
You need to understand that without marketing, you will not have sales and without sales, you will not have cash flow and without cash flow, you will not be able to pay for all the other functions (except by going into debt).
In short, you can’t afford to delegate all your marketing work to others if you’ve just started a new venture.
SECOND, doing a world-class MBA can’t make you a good marketer.
Today, it’s quite easy to do MBA or find and hire smart managers to run your business. The MBA graduate is a jack of all trades who is taught various subjects about business.
MBA gives exposure in areas like Human Resource, Marketing, Operations, International Trade, Manufacturing, Quality Control, etc.
Students learn different business models; go through complex case studies; work on multiple assignments and projects.
Yet, many MBA graduates don’t understand what actually drives people to buy.
They don’t understand WHY people respond to certain advertisements and reject others.
They don’t know how to tell people why they should buy.
They don’t know how to convert a stranger into a repeat customer.
They haven’t learned how to tap into the desires that all humans are naturally born with.
In short, if you want to become good at selling, you don’t need super expensive MBAs.
What you need is to learn what drives people to buy.
THIRD, new entrepreneurs commit a suicidal mistake by launching products in the market without knowing the pulse of the market.
They fail to notice the pains, fears, desires, and problems of people.
To becoming a Market Leader requires understanding the sense of your market.
It requires moving out of your comfort zone and starts spending time with your market.
You need to observe your market.
You need to listen to your market.
You need to feel the emotions of your market.
If you ignore the market, the market will ignore you.
That’s why you need to become a lifelong student of marketing.
